Does it work if I listen on Spotify?
Yes. MusicDrops finds releases in Apple’s music catalogue, which carries nearly everything that comes out on streaming services. You get the notification and play the record wherever you like. Drops open in Apple Music or the iTunes Store, and you add artists by searching for them.
Do I need Apple Music?
No subscription needed. iOS asks once for access to Apple Music, which is how MusicDrops searches the catalogue. If you do subscribe, you can also import artists from your library.
How soon will I hear about a new release?
MusicDrops checks in the background every few hours. iOS decides exactly when, so an alert can arrive a little after a record lands. You choose how it reaches you: each drop right away, once a day at 7 pm (or 2 pm), or only in your weekly recap.
Will I know about albums before they come out?
Yes. Once an artist’s next record is announced in the catalogue, it shows up as upcoming with its release date, and MusicDrops can notify you right then.
What does it cost?
MusicDrops is free for up to 10 artists, with everything else included. To follow more, Unlimited costs $1.99 a month, $12.99 a year with the first month free, or $39.99 once for life.
